Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano has announced that passports valid for 10 years will now be available as early as January 2018. Cayetano on Wednesday signed IRR (implementing rules and regulations) of the new Philippine Passport Act which President Duterte signed last August 2, 2017.
Cayetano said that the law cannot immediately be implemented because the Department of Foreign Affairs needs two months to notify other countries that the Philippine passports has been extended and will be valid for five more years.
