The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will today implement the dismissal order of the Office of the Ombudsman against Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

The dismissal order was issued after the ombudsman found Mabilog guilty of serious dishonesty for his questionable wealth.

The complaint stemmed from Mabilog’s failure to properly state his sources of wealth in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) in 2012 and 2013.

Last September this year, Mabilog has filed a leave of absence to pursue medical care. Mabilog has yet to return to office until now.

Last October 25, President Rodrigo Duterte has issued a threat to Mabilog during the ASEAN Law Association Event. “The mayor of Iloilo City, I identified him. This was broadcasted. I said you are next, you’re next.”, Duterte said during the event.

Mabilog fled the country in fear that he might end up like slain Mayors Rolando Espinosa of Leyte and Reynaldo Parojinog of Ozamis City.

During the time when Espenido was about to be transferred to Iloilo City, 1 year in hiding known drug lord Richard Prevendido was immediately located and killed. The PNP has stopped Espenido’s transfer because it did not follow the “established policies and procedures” of the said organization.

Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III will be the next Mayor of Iloilo City and will take up his seat at the Iloilo City Hall.
